If you volunteer as a firefighter or serve in search and rescue, there’s a new benefit coming your way. The volunteer firefighter tax credit is doubling from $3,000 to $6,000 for 2024. I’ve seen how often these credits get missed — especially if they aren’t well communicated. In this quick video, I break down what’s changing and why it matters for your next return. It may not apply to everyone, but if it does, it’s an easy win to make sure you claim.

While this may not be something that affects a lot of taxpayers, for those that it does, it’s going to be a nice change for 2024. So we’ll see as we complete the tax returns in spring 2025.
The volunteer fire tax credit and as well the search and rescue tax credit have been increased from $3,000 to $6,000. If you qualify, don’t forget the increases.
